THE BASICS

There are three guiding principles for roleplay in Erie.

Everything else will generally come under these;

Three Guiding Principles for Erie:

1 Respect others (all RP is consensual)

2 Have fun (draw in others to RP..remember we were all new once)

3 Whatever you do must have a clear relationship to the mythos of the SIM (we expect a write up (character and RP) to be ready if challenged to show how you thought about it)

Below are the steps for you to go through to get yourself up in running in our community:

1. Join the Erie Isle groups:

Erie Isle Main Group: The Erie Island Main Group is a no-chat, announcement only group for all residents of Erie Island Haunted Island Roleplay. Check here for sim-wide announcements and information. Please don't chat in this group, unless you are calling for help because of griefers. For open OOC chat, join the Erie Isle - OOC Chat group. The group joiner is in the entranceway [landing point] of the sim.

Erie Isle - Homeless Group: Erie Isle Homeless is where Erie newcomers start out. It is open to all types/races. It is where those new to role play or RPCS sims can learn the basics, for their first 30 days in the sim. Opportunities abound: sex, drugs, criminal activity, alley cats, stray dogs, crooked cops, mysterious strangers, and gentle, hard working souls vie for space and resources, learning the ropes as they go.

The group joiner is in the entranceway [landing point] of the sim.

Erie Isle - OOC Chat Group: This group is an open OOC chat group, intended to allow our players to connect with each other, brainstorm roleplays, go off-topic, or whatever. The Main Group remains no chat, with strict rules. This one is opposite: Keep it PG rated more or less, but use it to connect! The group joiner is in the Roleplayers Resource Center across from the entranceway [landing point] of the sim.

2. Read the Rules thoroughly

Before Engaging in Combat, be sure to read the Combat Rules

Before creating your character or buying an avatar, be sure to read the Race/Avatar Guidelines and pick the appropriate Race and Class on your RPCS meter: RPCS Races

Before wearing and using weapons or investing lindens in weapons, be sure to read the Weapons Guidelines

Before jumping head-first into roleplay, take a few minutes and be aware of the basics of Good Roleplay If you have any question, you may reach a staff person by clicking on one of the payphones in the entranceway [landing point] of the sim, in the Roleplayers Resource Center or throughout the Main sim.

3. Explore the Island

There are four sims that comprise Erie Isle:

1. The Port Sim, which houses the landing point/entrance, the Roleplayers Resource Center, a mall of vendors, and private parcels: Port_Sim.png

2. The Main Sim pictured here: Erie Isle Main Sim Map

3. The East Sim, which consists of a center open RP area surrounded by private parcels: east_sim.png

4. The South Sim, which consists of an extension of downtown Erie open RP area surrounded by private parcels: South_Sim.png Many of the parcel owners have left their land and buildings open for RP. All visitors are asked to be respectful and not disturb buildings that are locked or that are not located on the ground [skyboxes, etc]. To see some of what is available for RP on the private parcels, click here: Private Parcel Homes Open for RP

4. Attend Classes

Roleplay Basics, Character Development and Getting Involved classes are great places to start. You can see an example of the information presented in Roleplay Basics and get a head start on learning some of the basic elements of good RP.

In addition, many special topics and race-specific classes are offered. Check the Events Calendar regularly to see what classes are being offered.

You can see an example of a race-specific class here Angel Class.

5. Introduce Your Character to Your Fellow Residents

You can start this off by adding Erie Isle to your Picks in your Profile and adding a brief character background. You can copy and paste a template from here: Character Description Template.

Spend some time in Club Restricted [Blue Zone] or the Spitted Mermaid [in the slums - Red Zone] and chat it up with other characters.

The first step to RP is to get to know other characters ICly [In Character - ly]. You can do this by asking other characters their names, tell them yours and how you came to Erie.

You can also keep abreast of current roleplays in the sim by viewing our blog.

6. Get Additional Information in the Roleplayers Resource Center
