Sim Rules

Welcome to Erie Isle

This is a quick start guide designed to help you get yourself up and running quickly on the island. View the practical steps you can take to get up and running here: Getting Started in Erie Isle. Please feel free to ask questions in the Erie Isle OOC Chat group to help you get started, and to check out details on our website at http://www.erie-isle.com.

=========THE BASICS =========

There are three guiding principles for roleplay in Erie. Everything else will generally come under these; Three Guiding Principles for Erie:

1. Respect others (all RP & Combat is consensual)

2. Have fun (draw in others to RP..remember we were all new once)

3. Whatever you do must have a clear relationship to the mythos of the SIM (we expect a write up (character and RP) to be ready if challenged to show how you thought about it)

========== BACKGROUND =============

Erie Isle is a tiny island which was largely abandoned a number of years ago. Once a vacation spot, it was almost completely abandoned when Gaston P. Muircastle, the chairman of a large pharmaceutical company, murdered his wife, five children, and then himself in the mansion overlooking the highest spot on the island. Rumors quickly spread through the town that the mansion, and indeed the entire island, was haunted. Changes started to happen to its physical surrounding, rents fell, people stopped coming, and eventually the town began a long slide into darkness. And other ...things... started to move in and establish control. Humans still live on the island and work towards bettering it, blissfully unaware of the dangers that lurk in the shadows... until it is, for some of them, too late. See the attached notecard for detailed history.

Erie Isle is NOT a roleplay sim where you will see demons out in the street, werewolves at the bar or vampires feeding in the street. They'll likely be all around you in disguise. Conversely, some areas of the sim, it is not safe to go in human form or undisguised and you may be subject to attack if you enter those areas (this is referred to as Pitchfork, see the rules links below for details).

========== NEED MORE INFORMATION? =============

If you need more information about roleplaying, or are new to roleplaying or Second Life, please visit the Roleplaying Resource Center which has lots of information on how to get started. We hold regular classes in the sim on a variety of topics, and there is a great deal of information on our website as well.

========== The Rules ===========

• Be fair and respectful of others.
• In order to engage in roleplay or combat, you must be wearing a current RPCS meter. Wearing no meter means you are considered an observer and are invisible to ongoing roleplay.
• Erie Isle is an adult sim, and some of the roleplay can be of an extreme nature. You must be 18 or older in real life to play in Erie Isle.
• Absolutely no child avatars, or roleplaying characters under 18 years old.
• Please don't argue with the GM staff. They are volunteers and are there to help you. Their rulings are final.
• Erie is not a combat sim. You must have roleplay justification to initiate combat. Additional combat specific rules are at the link below..

========== HAVE FUN! ===========

Our staff is here to help you get familiar with the environment and to serve as a resource to help aid roleplay. We depend on you, our players, to make the roleplay happen. Don't hesitate to start your own stories, to initiate large and small roleplays, and engage in the wider story of the sim. If you need assistance or resources, feel free to contact someone on the staff to help.
